John P. Fairbairn Sr., 65, of Elmhurst, passed away on April 29th, 2026.
Dear husband of 43 years to Barbara Fairbairn (nee Marshall). They met when they were kids. John and Barbara were married at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard on March 13th, 1983.
Dear son to Norah and the late George Fairbairn. Beloved dad to Tyler Fairbairn, John P. (Karla) Fairbairn, Jr., Brittany (Julie) Sherman, and Lindsey (Jim) Menotti. Dear Papa to Easton Fairbairn, Cayden Sherman, Maddox Fairbairn, Mia Menotti, Callie Sherman, Brooklyn Menotti and Kendall Menotti. Loving brother to George “Speedy” (Kristi) Fairbairn, Michael Fairbairn, Richard (Esmeralda) Fairbairn and Debbie Fairbairn-White.
John grew up in Lombard, where he built a life centered on family and generosity. A devoted husband and loving father, he always put others before himself. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his genuine smile, and the way he showed up for those he loved. He was happiest cheering on his children from the sidelines or tending to his garden with care and pride. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes contributions to the family, in John’s memory, to help cover the funeral expenses.
A celebration of life will take place at the Churchill Subdivision Clubhouse, in Oswego, on Monday, May 25th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
